Each application must include the required form filing fee and biometric services fee (if applicable). The filing fee for Form I-485 is $ 1,140 (for applicants age 13 and under it is $ 750 if they submit their parent’s Form I-485) and the fee for biometric services is $ 85.
The biometric services fee applies only to individuals between the ages of 14 and 79. However, applicants under the age of 14 and over the age of 79 will have to show up for the biometrics appointment, although they do not have to pay the fee. Applicants who turn 14 when their applications are pending will be required to pay for biometric data services of $ 85 before USCIS adjudicates their applications.
Refugees do not need to pay the I-485 filing fee or the biometric services fee. Applicants who demonstrate their inability to pay the fee do not need to pay the fee. But they will need to file Form I-912 (Request for Fee Waiver) or submit a written request asking USCIS to waive their fee, along with which they will need to present evidence of their inability to pay the fee.
Those in removal proceedings or exclusion before an Immigration Judge also do not need to pay the fee for filing the form if the judge waives their fee. They will have to ask the judge to waive their fee by presenting the required evidence of their inability to pay the fee.
